Winter Escapes
Where to start...
Let me begin with an apologia for probably too many
pictures to come.
How to “blog” about four weeks of a pretty lonely escape to
Portugal and Spain for which two cameras where the only permanent company?
It seems as though I replaced those countless dialogues that
I would have had with a companion with taking pictures- a way of talking to
myself...
.... and turns out I had a lot to say.
I shot thousands of digital pictures that simply
overwhelm me now.
Oh the curse of the ever-forgiving SD-card that makes us
take, erase, re-take and erase and re-take pictures of moments that long ceased
to be what we have fallen in love with at first sight.
My Canon 60d- sometimes too easy of a lover…
Not so much my Minolta that shortly after this trip gave up
on me or retired from the exhausting closing of the shutter:
Konica Minolta metal-corpse number two.
My cameras grew tired like Rilke’s panther, only taking
pictures occasionally
“Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly--. An image enters in”
And of solitude, bars, chains, that big world behind them and
the heart as a vast space in which memories get lost- there will be many. So I
guess I will dedicate the next few posts to this wonderful unforgiving lover
who I spent so many hours with conversing in silence, and while Daughter
serenades this awfully rainy day outside my window, I go on another nostalgic
trip revisiting a solitude that I begin to crave again.
I
